I have modeled the historical Nusretiye clock tower using 3D ("brick") finite elements. The model was used to determine the dynamic characteristics of the tower and to perform a seismic analysis. The model was also used to determine the stresses and deformations in the tower due to the seismic loads. The tower was in the middle of a large construction zone, therefore the effects of the ongoing construction are also modeled. Moreover, the tower is lifted and placed on top of seismic isolators; the model is used to determine the design parameters of these isolators and their effects on the tower.
